The port of the capital Dakar reported a record 200,000 tons of cashew exports last year as the port, also used by DP World, a logistics company, as a cashew export hub.
The same port has in 2023 received 2000 tons of cashews from Guinea Bissau, DP World said, noting that most shipments went to India and Vietnam.
Over the past 16 years, DP World has invested over $300 million in modernizing the Port of Dakar.
Cashew farming holds significant importance for Senegal, particularly for small-scale farmers and vulnerable households in rural areas.
Cashew trees were initially introduced to Senegal in the 1950s as part of reforestation efforts. Today, they serve as a cash crop for local farmers.
