China announces 25.6 M€ donation to Cape Verde

On September 4, Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva announced that China will donate €25.6 million to Cape Verde. The announcement followed a meeting in Beijing with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who detailed the new donation, equivalent to $28.5 million, on Facebook.
During the meeting, Correia e Silva highlighted China’s rapid transformation and its dedication to developing human capital, particularly in knowledge, research, and innovation, as vital components for national progress.
The Prime Minister is leading Cape Verde’s delegation at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which began Wednesday and runs through Friday in Beijing. He emphasized the importance of FOCAC as a vital platform for dialogue and cooperation, which has strengthened the relationship between Cape Verde and China, evolving into a strategic partnership.
Looking ahead, Correia e Silva noted that Cape Verde and China will mark 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, an occasion he views as an opportunity to further enhance strategic cooperation. He stressed Cape Verde’s commitment to economic recovery, resilience, and diversification, with China as a key partner in these efforts.
The Prime Minister outlined priorities including education, health, public security, the blue economy, the digital economy, and environmental and climate policies. Joining him at FOCAC are Cape Verde’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Health, Internal Administration, and Trade, Industry, and Energy.
