Galp, Angolan government and Sonangol nominated for energy awards

The African Energy Chamber has announced on Wednesday September 4 that the Angolan government is nominated for the Reformer and Changemaker of the Year Award, alongside South Africa, the Republic of Congo, Namibia, and Egypt. Sonangol is competing for the ESG Leader of the Year Award, and Galp is in the running for Exploration and Production Leader of the Year.
The Reformer and Changemaker of the Year Award, presented from November 4 to 6 in Cape Town, honors a government or public entity showing exceptional leadership in reforming Africa’s energy sector and fostering an environment for energy growth and economic development.
Sonangol is also a contender for the ESG Leader of the Year Award, which recognizes companies excelling in environmental, social, and governance principles in natural resource development. This award highlights leadership in sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance.
The awards, part of the ‘African Energy Week: Invest in African Energy,’ celebrate those shaping Africa’s energy future. The African Energy Chamber, which organizes the event, aims to boost energy investment on the continent. The Chamber notes that Africa should more than double its share of the global natural gas market by 2050 and quadruple its renewable energy capacity by 2030, with significant contributions expected from Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province.
