Nigeria: Armed Robbers Steal N16.5 Million in North-east, Seven Dead and Eleven Injured

Armed robbers reportedly stole N16.5 million during an attack on Monday (January 20) evening as residents were leaving the popular Ngalda Market, located near the Gombe State border (North-east of Nigeria). The robbers targeted three shops at the market, resulting in the deaths of seven people and leaving eleven others injured. The incident occurred around 9:00 pm, and the Police confirmed the amount stolen by the attackers.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the spokesperson for Yobe State Police, confirmed the attack in a statement on Tuesday, identifying the leader of the gang as Datti Alhaji-Dadji, a resident of Ngalda. Following the attack, local residents mobilised and managed to kill three of the robbers, while the remaining three fled with injuries. The police later apprehended Alhaji-Dadji at his home, where they recovered a locally made pistol and three cartridges. He is currently in custody and is under interrogation.
The Commissioner of Police for Yobe State, Ahmed Garba, extended his condolences to the families of the victims and has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident. He called for calm within the community and directed his officers to track down the remaining members of the gang. Garba also appealed to the public to provide any information that could aid in the investigation.
