Tunisian Security Forces Bust Major Drug Trafficking Ring in Sfax

Tunisian security forces have successfully dismantled a major drug trafficking network in the eastern province of Sfax, arresting three individuals, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security on Sunday February 16. The operation, which followed extensive field investigations and intelligence gathering, was carried out by the regional anti-drug unit’s security teams in Sfax, who targeted a network involved in both drug trafficking and money laundering.

During the operation, authorities seized a significant haul of illegal substances, including 1,750 ecstasy tablets, 32 cannabis plaques, 500 grams of cocaine, and a large sum of cash. The operation forms part of Tunisia’s ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and drug trafficking, although further details regarding the operation were not disclosed. The suspects have been placed under detention, with the public prosecution authorizing their detention pending further investigation.

This latest bust is part of a broader crackdown by the Tunisian government on drug trafficking, which has seen hundreds of individuals arrested in recent months as part of nationwide operations aimed at curbing the spread of illicit drugs in the country.
