Officials from Morocco’s royal armed forces (FAR), the US armed forces and allied nations have taken part in a preparatory meeting for this year’s edition of the African Lion, the largest military drills on the continent, FAR said in a statement.
This year’s exercises will include training in various operational fields in addition to responding to threats including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear risks.
The 21st edition of Exercise African Lion will also feature parallel humanitarian civic assistance missions.
Last year, African Lion celebrated its 20th anniversary of the U.S. Africa Command’s largest, premier, joint, annual exercise.
The exercise involved over 10,000 participants from more than 20 nations, including contingents from NATO.
The drills aim to enhance interoperability among participating forces, build readiness to respond to crises and contingencies, and strengthen military cooperation between the U.S, Moroccan and their African partners.
