The “Ramadan 1446” aid campaign was launched this Monday, under the instructions of King Mohammed VI, by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Princess Lalla Khadija.
This token of generosity, which bears high significance during this blessed month and which has become a tradition for over 25 years, reflects the constant high solicitude of the King towards populations in socially vulnerable situations and underscores the values of humanity, solidarity, mutual aid, and sharing, which are characteristic of Moroccan society.
Under the “Ramadan 1446” campaign, which required a total budget of 330 million dirhams, some 34,280 tons of food products (flour, milk, rice, oil, sugar, tomato paste, vermicelli, lentils, and tea) will be distributed to provide aid and comfort to the most vulnerable social categories, particularly widows, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
This year, 74% of the beneficiary households of the operation live in rural areas across 1,054 communes, out of a total of 1,304 targeted communes across the entire national territory.
In accordance with the royal guidelines, this year’s edition will be marked by the use, for the first time, of the Unified Social Register (RSU), as updated by the Interior Ministry, to draw the lists of the households to benefit from the food support operation.
This national information system was implemented by the Ministry of the Interior to allow social support programs to determine the eligibility of households based on objective socio-economic criteria.
The national “Ramadan 1446” campaign, organized with the financial support of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, aligns with the humanitarian program led by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, which aims to provide support to those most in need and at the same time promote a culture of solidarity.
To ensure the smooth running of this campaign, thousands of people are mobilized, supported by social workers and volunteers, at distribution points set up across the national territory.
The implementation of this initiative is also subject to oversight by two committees, one local and the other provincial, that monitor the supply of distribution centers and the distribution of food products on the ground.
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) oversee the quality control of the distributed food products.
During the operation launch ceremony, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and Princess Lalla Khadija symbolically handed over food baskets to 20 heads or representatives of families benefiting from the aid campaign.
