Kenya has partnered with India to introduce a real-time document verification platform inspired by India’s DigiLocker system, in a move aimed at eliminating certificate forgery. Hon. William Kabogo, Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE), confirmed the development after holding productive discussions with a delegation from the Indian Government, led by Anish Kumar, Advisor to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
This collaboration follows an MoU signed in December 2023 between Kenya and India, focused on enhancing digital security and improving document verification processes. Hon. Kabogo explained that Kenya is adopting a technology platform that allows for instant document authentication, which will address the persistent issue of forgery. “Document forgery is an issue that we are ready to eliminate using technology, cutting down on the time traditionally used to verify documents manually,” he stated.
The initiative will be supported by a multi-sectoral team, including representatives from various ministries and stakeholders, ensuring that the platform aligns with Kenya’s legal framework and meets local needs. In addition to Hon. Kabogo, the meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui, Secretary for ICT E-Government and Digital Economy Mary Kerema, and other senior government officials.
