
Morocco and the African Union (AU) discussed strengthening cooperation on migration and social development during a meeting on Wednesday at AU headquarters in Addis Ababa.
Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Mohamed Arrouchi, held talks with Amma Twum-Amoah, the newly appointed Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.
Arrouchi reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting the department’s reform efforts and the operationalization of its technical agencies.
He also emphasized Morocco’s role in migration governance, highlighting best practices developed under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, the AU’s Champion for Migration.
He underscored the strategic role of the African Migration Observatory, based in Rabat, describing it as a key continental platform for data analysis and policy forecasting.
Commissioner Twum-Amoah welcomed Morocco’s continued engagement and praised the King’s leadership, noting that migration remains a top priority for her department.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to advancing a unified, people-centered approach to migration in Africa, aimed at protecting the interests of the continent and its citizens.
