Tanzanian PM Urges Unity and Vigilance Ahead of General Elections

Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has called on citizens to uphold patriotism and safeguard national peace as the country approaches its October 2025 general elections.
Speaking at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) on Tuesday, June 17, Majaliwa cautioned against rhetoric or actions that threaten stability.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to democratic freedoms, encouraging public participation in political activities while urging voters to scrutinise political messages through the lens of national unity and the principles set by Tanzania’s founding leaders.
Majaliwa also warned of recent attempts to tarnish the government’s image, advising citizens to be discerning and avoid supporting divisive actors. He assured the public of the government’s dedication to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, and emphasised the importance of exercising the constitutional right to vote. Highlighting TIE’s role, he lauded the institution as a cornerstone of Tanzania’s educational development and called on its staff to diligently uphold their legal and civic duties.
