22 Arrested After Deadly Mob Attack on Wedding Bus in Nigeria’s Plateau State

Nigerian Police have arrested on Sunday 22 individuals linked to a mob attack that left at least 12 people dead and several others injured in the Mangu area of Plateau State. The incident occurred on Friday night when a bus carrying wedding guests from Zaria, Kaduna State, lost its way and was surrounded by a violent crowd.
Authorities rescued 21 passengers from the mob, but the police have not confirmed the exact number of fatalities. Human rights group Amnesty International reported that 12 people were killed instantly, with 11 more injured, urging authorities to ensure justice for the victims.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack, calling for strong law enforcement action to prevent future occurrences. The incident underscores the growing insecurity in Nigeria’s north-central region, where intercommunal violence, particularly between farmers and herders, and attacks by armed gangs have intensified. Just two weeks prior, a separate assault in neighbouring Benue State left over 100 people dead, raising alarm over the deteriorating security situation and the urgent need for coordinated government response.
