President Bola Tinubu has launched 2,000 advanced tractors and a suite of modern agricultural equipment under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme. At the inauguration event held on Monday, June 23 in Abuja, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector, enhancing productivity, and achieving national food security.
He emphasised that agricultural mechanisation is essential not just for local nourishment but for positioning Nigeria as a global agricultural player. Stressing the need to replace outdated farming practices with modern technology, Tinubu described this initiative as the beginning of an agricultural revolution.
The programme, which aligns with Tinubu’s *Renewed Hope Agenda*, aims to create job opportunities, enable year-round farming, and improve access to affordable food for every Nigerian. He called on stakeholders to deploy the equipment responsibly, under close supervision, to ensure impact at the grassroots level. Tinubu also commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for its strategic leadership in mitigating food insecurity and driving rural economic growth.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, hailed the initiative as the most ambitious agricultural mechanisation effort in Nigeria’s history. He revealed that the deployment includes 2,000 tractors with essential implements such as plows, harrows, sprayers, and planters, along with 10 high-capacity harvesters, 12 mobile workshops, and over 9,000 spare parts kits. Kyari reiterated the government’s dedication to placing agriculture at the centre of national development, marking the programme as a transformative step toward building a self-sustaining and globally competitive agro-economy.
