El-Sisi and Lourenço Discuss African Security and Bilateral Ties at AU Summit

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks with Angolan President João Lourenço on Sunday, July 13, on the margins of the seventh African Union Mid-Year Coordination Summit in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The engagement focused on regional peace and security, as well as the strengthening of bilateral ties. President El-Sisi commended Angola’s leadership of the African Union and its dedication to promoting pan-African cooperation.

President Lourenço, in turn, acknowledged Egypt’s historic and strategic role within the African continent and its contributions to AU initiatives. The two leaders exchanged views on pressing regional issues, including developments in the Horn of Africa, Sudan, the Sahel, and the Nile Basin, with a shared commitment to stability across the region.

The meeting also explored opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors. Both presidents expressed a mutual desire to elevate relations between Egypt and Angola and to harness their collective efforts toward achieving prosperity and sustainable development for their respective nations.
