A tragic road accident on Serra da Leba in Angola’s Namibe province has resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people, with 21 others severely injured. The collision occurred on Wednesday, July 16, when a private operator’s passenger bus, en route from Lubango to Moçâmedes, crashed into a truck before veering off the winding mountain road into a deep ravine. Rescue teams from both Huila and Namibe provinces responded promptly, recovering bodies and transporting critically wounded survivors to Lubango Central Hospital.
The accident has reignited concerns over road safety on Angola’s mountainous routes, where narrow and sinuous roads are prone to severe crashes. Emergency services remain at the scene, searching for additional victims and working to clear the wreckage. Authorities and transportation operators are expected to investigate the causes, with attention now focusing on improving safety measures and emergency response across the region.
