Angola Champions Peaceful, Inclusive Solutions to Libya’s Political Crisis

Angola has reiterated its firm support for a peaceful resolution of the Libyan conflict, advocating inclusive and regionally-led approaches over external military interventions.
Speaking before international bodies on Thursday, July 24, Angolan diplomats emphasised the critical importance of multilateral dialogue, affirmation of Libyan sovereignty, and respect for institutional legitimacy as avenues toward stability.
In representations to the African Union and the United Nations, Angola proposed the establishment of a robust legal and electoral framework in Libya designed to support national reconciliation and prepare for credible, inclusive elections. The Angolan representative further stressed the need for withdrawal of foreign mercenaries and reinforcement of Libyan institutions as vital prerequisites for stabilisation.
Additionally, Angola encouraged revitalisation of mechanisms such as the Libyan 5+5 Joint Military Commission under international oversight, reinforcing the central role of African-led peace architecture. The approach reflects Angola’s broader diplomatic ethos: regional ownership of conflict resolution rooted in dialogue, legal legitimacy, and continental solidarity.
