Egypt’s Ministry of Interior announced on Monday, October 6, the release of 2,735 prisoners under a presidential pardon to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the October Victory.
The decision, issued in line with Presidential Decree No. 565 of 2025, was aimed at granting clemency to inmates who satisfied the legal requirements for early release. Specialised committees from the ministry’s Community Protection Sector meticulously reviewed the files of prisoners across the country’s reform and rehabilitation centres to determine eligibility.
The ministry underscored that this mass pardon is part of a broader commitment to a modern rehabilitative penal policy, focused on offering care to inmates and supporting their reintegration into society. Over recent years, thousands of prisoners have benefited from presidential pardons in Egypt, often coinciding with national and religious celebrations, symbolising both mercy and the state’s evolving approach to criminal justice.
