DRC: The government ordered the replacement of custom officials in Katanga.

Un-combattant-du-mouvement-du-M-23-la-fronti-re-avec-le-Rwanda-dans-la-r-gion-de-Bunagana-The Minister of Finance, Henry Yav Mulang, instructed the General Director of the Head office of Customs and Excise (LDB) to replace “without delay” all those responsible of the financial frauds in Katanga department “at all levels and at all positions “. This decision was announced after the visit of the Prime Minister on Monday, 12th January at the customs post of Kasumbalesa.

Henry Yav Mulang notably instructed the CEO of the ADMD to appoint a new director at the financial administration in Katanga.

Announcing its decision, the Minister of Finance said:

“I came, after consultation with the general director of customs head office to take the following measures:

  1. Proceed without delay the appointment of a new director to head office of Katanga
  2. Carry out without delay in the Kasumbalesa customs station changes of all divisional heads serving as deputy director or inspector and all office managers assuming the controller or main receiver functions as well as all those that are attached to first class office exercising as auditor or receiver.
  3. Extend these changes to all other customs stations in Katanga department as Kalemie Dilolo, Kolwezi, etc. »

Moreover, the Minister of Finance has made the appointment of new provincial officials to the Head office of Taxes (DGI) in Katanga department.

When he was Finance Minister Matata Ponyo denounced in April 2010 customs frauds in Kasumbalesa border.

“Everyone knows that we import sugar that we clear at customs as salt. Everyone knows we import fuel for mining production so it is used in the local market. And everyone knows that trucks remain at the border for days before disappearing overnight, “said the minister.
