Guinea’s Supreme Court Releases Provisional List of Nine Candidates for 28 December Presidential Election

Guinea’s Supreme Court released over the week-end a provisional list of nine candidates cleared to contest the country’s presidential election scheduled for 28 December. Among them, seven candidates will run under political party banners, while two others, including Transitional President General Mamadi Doumbouya, will contest as independents.
Nearly thirty applications were rejected, including those of veteran politicians Lansana Kouyaté and Ousmane Kaba.
Abdoulaye Kourouma, leader of the Rally for Renaissance and Development (RRD), expressed confidence after being shortlisted, noting his party’s long history of participating in national elections.
Independent candidate Mohamed Chérif Tounkara welcomed the court’s decision, vowing to campaign vigorously for victory. The Supreme Court announced that the final list of approved candidates will be published on 13 November, marking the next step in Guinea’s transition toward a democratic civilian government following years of political uncertainty.
