Suspected gunmen launched a pre-dawn assault on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, in Kebbi State’s Wasagu/Danko district, killing a staff member and abducting at least 25 students on Monday.
According to Police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar Kotakoshi, the armed assailants scaled the school’s perimeter fence and stormed the dormitory, attacking staff and seizing the girls. Another staff member sustained injuries during the raid, and authorities fear the number of missing students may be higher than initially reported.
Security agencies have since mobilised, deploying search teams across known bandit routes and into surrounding forests in an intensified effort to rescue the abducted girls. Officials say the operation is ongoing, with reinforced patrols aimed at intercepting the attackers and safeguarding nearby communities as the region grapples with yet another distressing episode of insecurity.
