Zimbabwe Unveils Ambitious Five-Year Blueprint to Accelerate Economic Transformation

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has launched on November 27 the country’s next five-year development framework, the 2026–2030 National Development Strategy (NDS 2), designed to fast-track the nation’s progression toward upper-middle-income status by 2030.
Building on the foundation of the outgoing NDS 1, the new blueprint is anchored on ten national priorities and seeks to deepen reforms that enhance competitiveness and ease the cost of doing business. Mnangagwa highlighted goals including maintaining macroeconomic stability, boosting value addition in agriculture and mining, strengthening infrastructure across all sectors, and reinforcing food and nutrition security.
The strategy further aims to foster a knowledge-driven, digitally enabled economy, promote inclusive development, expand job creation and youth entrepreneurship, and strengthen access to quality social services such as health and education.
Mnangagwa underscored that industrialisation, modernisation and robust resource beneficiation will be central to ensuring broad-based national benefit. Complementing this, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube noted that NDS 2 introduces innovative mechanisms to drive sustainable, resilient growth, supported by strong monitoring systems and disciplined fiscal and monetary management to safeguard the currency, stimulate investment, and ensure equitable wealth distribution.
