Chapo Pledges Intensified Anti-Corruption Drive Within Frelimo

Mozambican President Daniel Chapo has announced that the ruling Frelimo Party will intensify its campaign against corruption, both within its internal structures and across wider society. Speaking on Monday in Maputo in his capacity as President of Frelimo, during a meeting with the secretariats of the party’s affiliated social organisations, Mr Chapo said renewed efforts would also target tribalism and regionalism, which he described as «threats to national cohesion».

According to Radio Mozambique, the President indicated that the strengthened offensive aims to shield the country from divisive practices while accelerating development efforts towards achieving economic independence.

Mr Chapo further urged Frelimo’s social organisations to reinforce acts of solidarity with communities affected by the recent floods in the south and centre of the country. He stressed that such support would be vital in laying the groundwork for recovery and rebuilding in the aftermath of the disaster.
