The United Nations has formally acknowledged the candidacy of former Senegalese President Macky Sall for the position of Secretary-General.
The confirmation was delivered by the spokesperson for the General Assembly, La Neice Collins, during a press briefing.
“The President of the General Assembly has received a new nomination for the position of Secretary-General. It is Macky Sall, former President of Senegal,” she told reporters. According to the spokesperson, the application was submitted by the Republic of Burundi, which lodged the nomination on Monday morning.
She further indicated that the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Security Council will jointly notify Member States in line with established procedure. The relevant documents are expected to be circulated shortly as part of the formal process.
