Curfew imposed in Nigeria’s Plateau State after deadly gun attack

At least 20 people have been killed following a late-night attack by gunmen in a University community in north-central Nigeria. The assault, which occurred on Sunday, March 29, initially recorded 13 deaths, but the toll rose after further assessments by community leaders on Monday, March 30.

Residents and local authorities reported that the attackers stormed the area in Jos North, opening fire on civilians and triggering panic. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as gunshots forced many to flee their homes in search of safety.

In response, the Plateau State government imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area, restricting movement while security forces were deployed to restore calm and prevent further violence.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, condemned the attack, assuring that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice. She also called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as measures are intensified to safeguard lives and property.
