Nigeria’s Parliament on Tuesday approved a revised 68.30 trillion naira ($49.38 billion) budget for 2026, following a request by Bola Tinubu to adjust the initial proposal. The President had earlier presented a 58.47 trillion naira budget to the National Assembly on December 19, outlining plans to consolidate economic reforms and stimulate growth.
However, lawmakers endorsed a higher figure after Tinubu sought amendments prior to final approval. According to a joint statement by appropriation Committee chairs Adeola Solomon Olamilekan and Abubakar Kabiru Bichi, the increase is intended to cover outstanding capital projects from previous budgets and prevent lingering financial obligations from impacting the 2026 fiscal agenda.
