Angola Allocates Over AKZ 200 Million to Strengthen National Water Governance in 2026

Angola’s National Water Council (Conselho Nacional de Águas) has been allocated more than AKZ 200 million for the 2026 fiscal year, underscoring renewed State commitment to improving water governance, coordination, and infrastructure planning across the country. The country’s Minister of Energy and Water, Joao Batista Borges, made the announcement at the end of the first Ordinary Session of the National Water Council held on Monday, April 13.

The funding is intended to reinforce institutional capacity and support strategic oversight of water resources management, including coordination between ministries, technical bodies, and regional stakeholders responsible for water supply and hydrological systems.

According to the report, the allocation forms part of broader national efforts to enhance efficiency in water resource administration, strengthen planning mechanisms, and ensure sustainable utilisation of water across both urban and rural areas. It also aligns with Angola’s ongoing policy direction focused on improving access to safe water, addressing supply gaps, and supporting long-term development goals in the sector.

The Council continues to serve as a key advisory and coordination platform within the Executive structure, guiding decisions on water policy, infrastructure development, and regulatory frameworks.
