Togo has launched the second phase of its nationwide vaccination campaign against Poliomyelitis on April 16, as part of efforts to halt virus transmission and strengthen child immunity.
The campaign follows an initial round conducted from March 12 to 14, which achieved 95 per cent coverage among targeted children. Health authorities have deployed mobile teams across both urban and rural communities to administer a second dose to children aged up to five years, free of charge.
Officials say the follow-up phase is critical to consolidating immunisation gains and ensuring the interruption of poliovirus circulation nationwide. According to Kokou Wotobe, two rounds of vaccination are necessary to sustainably protect children and break transmission chains.
The Ministry of Health has also urged parents, guardians, and early childhood institutions—including nurseries and daycare centres—to cooperate fully by granting vaccination teams access to eligible children.
