South Sudan: Security Forces Deployment in Juba, a Mere Election Preparedness Drill

Authorities in South Sudan have defended the heavy deployment of security Forces across the capital, Juba, describing it as a routine rehearsal ahead of anticipated national elections later this year.

Police spokesperson Daniel Justin said the visible presence of uniformed personnel is part of efforts to test operational readiness and simulate real-time election scenarios. The exercises include intensified patrols, vehicle checks, and refresher training for officers.

The deployment has sparked concern among residents, but authorities insist that the situation remains stable and that the measures are proactive rather than a response to any immediate threat. Officials say the operations are also helping to deter crime, with early signs of reduced criminal activity across the city.
