Over 8.7 Million Registered for Zambia’s August 13 Elections

Zambia’s Electoral Commission on Monday announced that 8,786,300 citizens are eligible to vote in the general elections scheduled for August 13, following a voter registration exercise conducted between October and November last year.

Speaking in Lusaka, Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro disclosed that young people account for 4,066,423 of registered voters. Females constitute 53.1 per cent (4,665,431), while males represent 46.9 per cent (4,120,869).

The certified register also reflects an expanded electoral map, with constituencies increasing from 156 to 226 after a delimitation exercise. Voters are expected to elect a President, members of Parliament and Councillors.
