The Government of the Ethiopia has announced that conditions have been put in place to ensure broad-based participation in its upcoming Seventh General Election, scheduled for June 1, 2026, according to the Ethiopian News Agency.
Speaking in Addis Ababa on Wednesday, May 20, the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs stated that an enabling environment has been created to facilitate the active involvement of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in the electoral process.
State Minister Huria Ali indicated that targeted measures have been implemented to improve accessibility at polling stations and to promote inclusive civic engagement across all segments of society. She added that high voter registration figures reflect increasing public interest in the democratic process.
Authorities further stated that constitutional safeguards are in place to guarantee citizens’ rights to both vote and stand for office, while reinforcing commitments to fairness, transparency, and peaceful participation.
The Government also noted that oversight mechanisms and public awareness campaigns are being deployed to support the credibility of the electoral process. Meanwhile, 47 political parties are reportedly engaging voters through various media platforms as campaigning intensifies.
The Ministry has urged citizens to participate in large numbers on election day, framing civic engagement as a critical pillar in shaping the country’s political future and strengthening democratic governance.
