Sudanese Army Claims Capture of Fashfoun Area in Blue Nile After Clashes with RSF

Sudan’s Army says it has taken control of the Fashfoun area in Blue Nile state following clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

The Army said its 13th Brigade of the 4th Infantry Division, supported by Special Operations units, seized the area after a major offensive that resulted in significant losses for opposing forces.

It added that troops were conducting security operations to pursue remaining fighters and restore stability. The announcement comes days after the military said it had recaptured the strategic border town of Al-Kurmuk on 8 July 2026.

Sudan has been locked in a devastating conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the army and the RSF over disagreements on integrating the paramilitary group into the national military. The war has caused a severe humanitarian crisis, with tens of thousands killed and millions displaced.
