South Sudan has dismissed reports that it has granted visa-free entry exclusively to citizens of Tanzania and Egypt, describing the claims as false and without any legal or administrative basis.
In a statement issued on Monday, 20 July 2026, the Ministry of Interior said it had not introduced any changes to the country’s immigration or visa policy, despite a visa eligibility list appearing on the government’s e-visa website before it was removed the same day.
The ministry said it had not issued any directive, policy decision or legal instrument granting visa-free access solely to Tanzanian and Egyptian nationals, nor had it approved the visa fee schedule that was circulated online.
The now-removed eligibility list had indicated that travellers from Tanzania and Egypt were exempt from visa fees, while most other African nationals would pay US$100 for a single-entry visa, US$200 for a three-month multiple-entry visa and US$350 for a six-month multiple-entry visa.
It also suggested that citizens of Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, Rwanda, Sudan and Kenya would pay reduced visa fees. However, the government has clarified that the published information does not reflect official policy.
