Togo has dismissed 78 public officials between 2025 and 2026 for violating statutory obligations as part of efforts to strengthen ethics and good governance within the public administration. The government announced on Wednesday that the dismissals were among 132 disciplinary sanctions imposed following increased monitoring of civil servants’ records and administrative compliance.
According to a statement from the Council of Ministers, the measures form part of a broader drive to promote accountability, transparency and efficiency in the public service. The government said the sanctions targeted issues including irregular absences, abandonment of duty, breaches of professional ethics and fraudulent administrative documents.
President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, urged government officials to strengthen cooperation with relevant institutions to improve oversight and prevention mechanisms within the public administration.
The latest action follows the removal of more than 50 “irregular agents” from the civil service after administrative checks uncovered cases of fraud. Togo’s civil service had about 71,000 employees at the end of 2024 and was projected to reach nearly 84,000 active civil servants in 2025, according to official figures.
