Sudan Army Shoots Down Two RSF Drones in North Kordofan

Sudan’s Army said on Monday, August 17, 2026, that its air defense systems had shot down two drones operated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Kordofan State.

The military said one FH-95 drone was intercepted in the Jureijikh area, while a second drone of the same model was brought down near the town of Bara. The latest incidents bring to seven the number of RSF drones the army says it has destroyed across the broader Kordofan region since June.

The RSF have intensified drone attacks around Bara, Jabrat al-Sheikh and along the strategic export route to the state capital, El Obeid.

The Army regained control of significant parts of North Kordofan, including sections of the export road, during an offensive on July 25, 2026. The operation forced RSF fighters to retreat towards Umm Bader, Sawdiri, Hamrat al-Sheikh and Al-Mazroub in the west.

The military is seeking to secure the corridor to protect El Obeid from attacks from the east and restore ground links with Omdurman, across the Nile from Khartoum.
