WFP calls for inquiry after Sudan air strike kills aid driver

A driver transporting World Food Programme (WFP) supplies was killed in an air strike in Sudan’s South Kordofan on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

The WFP said on Sunday, October 4, that the convoy’s trucks were “clearly marked as humanitarian vehicles”. It called for an investigation but did not identify those responsible.

The attack occurred as the convoy travelled between two cities controlled by the Sudanese Armed Forces, amid intensified fighting with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in the Kordofan region.

Sudan’s conflict, which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced about 14 million people. Nearly 19.5 million people faced acute food insecurity between February and May 2026, according to an international food security assessment.
