Sudan: Abdel Burhan vows to reject once again RSF talks

Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has vowed to continue the military campaign against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) until “every inch” of the country is retaken.

Addressing a public gathering in Village 5 in Merowe locality, Northern State, this Tuesday, Burhan reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to pursuing a military solution, according to the Sudan News Agency.

He reiterated the government’s rejection of negotiations with the RSF, saying efforts would continue to restore security, stability and Sudan’s unity. The Government maintains that any truce or dialogue must require the RSF to withdraw from cities and public institutions, surrender its weapons and regroup in designated camps. It also demands accountability for those accused of violations.

Sudan’s Army and the RSF have been at war since April 2023, following a dispute over integrating the paramilitary force into the military.

The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced 13 million, triggering one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
