Libya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Taher Al-Sunni, held talks with UN General Assembly President Khalilur Rahman on Thursday, October 8, 2026, over Africa’s campaign for fair representation on the UN Security Council.
The discussions covered the position of the African Committee of Ten (C10) on Security Council reform, ongoing intergovernmental negotiations and preparations for an upcoming C10 ministerial meeting in Tripoli.
Mr Al-Sunni said the UN General Assembly President called for intensified efforts to advance Africa’s common position and pledged to support the campaign during his tenure. Mr Rahman also expressed interest in attending the Tripoli meeting, highlighting its importance to Africa’s demand for equitable representation on the Security Council. Libya is participating in the reform negotiations as a member of the C10, which promotes the continent’s common position on restructuring the Security Council.
