Rwanda’s economy expanded by 9.7% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, supported by growth in the services, industry and agriculture sectors, the National Bank of Rwanda said on Thursday, October 8.
According to the Central Bank’s latest Monetary Policy and Financial Stability Statement, the services sector grew by 7.4%, driven largely by trade and transport. Industry recorded the strongest growth at 15.5%, while agriculture expanded by 5.9%.
Central bank Governor Soraya Hakuziyaremye described the performance as broad-based, with construction and manufacturing playing significant roles despite economic shocks during the year.
The Bank expects the economy to remain resilient during the second half of 2026, with non-agricultural sectors helping Rwanda achieve projected annual growth of 7.8%.
However, it warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could disrupt international trade, raise transport and production costs, and weaken external demand.
