The Malagasy government has offered the government of Congo-Brazzaville a large quantity of Covid-Organics, its traditional recipe for combating the coronavirus. Following studies, the results of which are expected to be published, officials in charge of the coronavirus response in Congo consider this product to be ineffective and call for caution in its consumption.
In the office of Professor Alexis Elira Dokekias, responsible for the care of Covid-19 patients, a few boxes containing bottles of Covid-Organics are lying in the corner.
Congolese experts conducted chemical and toxicological analyses to check whether this Malagasy product was compliant and did not cause side effects. It was administered to a few people and the results were inconclusive, according to the report.
‘‘The findings point to limited effectiveness,” says Alexis Elira Dokekias. There are people who took Covid-Organics as a preventive measure, but got infected. And in the curative study, unfortunately, there are patients who did not respond to treatment.’’
However, the professor relativizes: “This will be proven on scientific elements because I am giving you the report in a preliminary way. We are scientists, therefore, we should not throw a stone in the puddle by saying that the traditional Malagasy recipe is bad. ”
Congo began a step-by-step deconfinement on May 18. The country has more than 2,600 cases of Coronavirus to date.
