A Boko Haram attack in the far north of Cameroon killed five soldiers and one civilian

Five Cameroonian soldiers and one civilian were killed Monday in a Boko Haram attack in the far north of Cameroon, where the jihadists are increasing their number of attacks, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense read on Tuesday on State radio.
On Monday night, “a horde of heavily armed terrorists of the Boko Haram sect, aboard several light tactical vehicles, attacked the command post (…) located in the locality of ZiguĂ©,” according to the statement read on CRTV, specifying that five soldiers and one civilian were killed.
Three soldiers and one civilian were also wounded in the attack, a few kilometers from the border with Nigeria, where Boko Haram has emerged, according to the Defense Ministry. Members of Boko Haram were killed, the statement said.
“Troops remain on high alert throughout the far north and across the borders to prevent possible new assaults by the terrorist hydra Boko Haram, which seems to have regained momentum following the internal restructuring of its ideology,” the statement continued.
The far north of Cameroon, close to the Nigerian border, is regularly the scene of attacks by this extremist group from northeast Nigeria. Eight Cameroonian soldiers were killed in a Boko Haram attack Saturday in Sagme, in the same region of Cameroon, a few dozen kilometers from the border with Nigeria.
