Morocco’s King chairs religious ceremony in commemoration of death of late Hassan II

King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful chaired, on Friday at the Mohammed V Mausoleum in Rabat, a religious ceremony in commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the passing away of late King Hassan II.

During the ceremony, the Sovereign was accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid and his son Prince Moulay Ahmed, and Prince Moulay Ismail.

The religious ceremony was marked by the recitation of verses of the Holy Quran and the declamation of panegyrics of the Prophet Sidna Mohammed.

The ceremony was attended by the Head of Government, the Presidents of the two Houses of Parliament, the King’s Advisors, members of the Government, the Presidents of constitutional bodies, the representatives of the Islamic diplomatic corps accredited to Rabat and several other civil and military personalities.

A similar religious ceremony was held at the Assouna Mosque in Rabat under the chairmanship of Princess Lalla Meryem.
The ceremony was attended by several female civil and military personalities.

King Hassan II passed away on July 23, 1999, corresponding to Rabiʻ II 12, 1420 AH (Hijrah year). This Friday, Rabiʻ II 10, 1444 AH, marks the 24th anniversary of the death of the late monarch according to the Hijrah calendar.

The late King reigned over Morocco for 38 years, from 1961 until his passing at the age of 70. The former monarch was renowned for his strong and wise character, as well as his peacemaking efforts in the Middle East and Africa.

Earlier this month, Ethiopia awarded a Pan-African Prize to the late King Hassan II in recognition of his contributions to the setting up of the Organization of African Unity and promotion of Pan-Africanism.
