Cape Verde extends HPV vaccination to boys

Now, “to enable gender equality and equity and prevent HPV-caused cancers in boys, the Ministry of Health will extend vaccination to boys aged 10 to 14,” she announced.
This Tuesday October 17, Cape Verde began vaccinating boys aged 10 to 14 against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is mainly associated with cervical cancer, but also with tumors in males.
Previous vaccination campaigns, aimed at girls up to the age of 14, allowed the country to “achieve vaccination coverage of over 95%” in that target population, the Ministry of Health explained in a statement on Tuesday.
Now, “in order to enable gender equality and equity and prevent HPV-caused cancers in boys, the Ministry of Health will extend vaccination to boys aged 10 to 14,” it announced.
Duly identified teams “will visit all compulsory primary and secondary schools, upon presentation of the child and adolescent booklet”.
Vaccination will also take place in all health facilities.
