The director of Cape Verde’s Judicial Police resigns

The national director of the Cape Verdean Judicial Police (PJ), Ivanilda Mascarenhas, has resigned for undisclosed reasons, and efforts are underway to replace her, the Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa, announced on Thursday.
We are working within the legal framework so that we have a new national director of the Judicial Police who has the profile required for the job and can better carry out his duties,” she said on the sidelines of a public event in Praia.
Joana Rosa said she was “focused” so that “there is no deterioration in the image of the PJ, a very important entity”.
Asked about the reasons for her resignation, the minister referred the question to Ivanilda Mascarenhas.
The deputy national director, Heidmilson Frederico, who was appointed in May, also resigned, according to the online newspaper Santiago Magazine, which reported on the departures on Wednesday.
Judge Ivanilda Mascarenhas had taken office as director of the PJ on December 23, 2022, with the aim of “preserving gains”, projecting the institution to a “new level,” and giving “particular attention” to crime.
