Morocco and China agreed on a 2025-2027 cooperation plan in the field of water management, including hydraulic infrastructure.
Water minister Nizar Baraka and China’s deputy water minister Zhu Chengqing signed an MoU in that respect in Rabat.
The deal aims to exchange experiences, enhance human and institutional capacities, prepare joint cooperation projects, and coordinate the implementation of specialized training programs in water-related fields.
It also covers cooperation on hydraulic infrastructure, such as the construction, operation, management, and maintenance of water distribution projects.
Morocco is also looking forward to closer cooperation with China in terms of addressing floods and droughts as well as ensuring drinking water supply in rural areas, and the conservation and protection of water resources, including water-saving measures for irrigation.
The two parties agreed to hold three meetings of the China-Morocco Joint Committee on Water Resources in 2025, 2026, and 2027. These meetings will focus on sharing experiences in planning, research, evaluation, and monitoring of water resources. Additionally, a technical meeting and on-site research will be organized to showcase the construction and maintenance of water transport infrastructure in Morocco, along with a seminar to summarize the exchange of experiences between the two parties.
