Egypt’s agricultural exports rise by 32% amid expansion of fertile land

Egypt’s agricultural exports saw a 32% increase in the first 10 months of 2024, according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. The total value of exports reached $4.1 billion, reflecting a $1 billion increase compared to the same period last year.
The report revealed that Egypt’s agricultural exports exceeded 7.1 million tons from January to October 2024. Citrus fruits led the exports, accounting for 2.2 million tons, followed by potatoes at 0.9 million tons.
The Government aims to export 10 million tons of fresh produce in addition to other food products. To achieve this, the agricultural sector is being expanded through major national projects, including the New Delta project, which targets more than 4 million acres, with 2.2 million acres already in operation.
In support of this goal, Egypt has introduced a new shipping service linking the port of Dekheila in Alexandria with Russia’s Novorossiysk and St. Petersburg ports. The service, operated by Global Logistics in partnership with Fox Shipping, will run two weekly trips, ensuring the rapid delivery of agricultural products to Russian markets. The vessels are equipped with 350 refrigeration units, offering a weekly capacity of 700 refrigerated containers.
This new service aims to enhance Egypt’s agricultural export capacity, particularly to Russia, which has seen increasing demand for Egyptian produce. The initiative aligns with Egypt’s broader strategy to boost exports and solidify its position as a regional hub for trade and agricultural products.
