Morocco remains a front-runner in the Global Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) released on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Climate Change (COP-29) convening in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The North African Kingdom rises one spot to rank 8th in this year’s CCPI after receiving good rating in climate policy, high in GHG emissions and energy use, and renewable energy.
The CCPI experts say Morocco stands as a regional leader in sustainable development and GHG reduction, affirming that the country’s sustainable development becomes visible in the continued commitment to a 52% share of renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030.
The CCPI experts also commend the progress made by the Kingdom in expanding solar and wind projects.
The CCPI, published annually, is an independent monitoring tool for tracking countries’ climate mitigation performance. It increases transparency in national and international climate policy and enables comparison of individual countries’ climate protection efforts and progress.
