Nigeria has reiterated its dedication to maintaining strong diplomatic and people-to-people relations with Ghana amid ongoing tensions between citizens of both nations. This was announced by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in a statement released on Wednesday, July 30, by her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Dr Magnus Eze, following her official visit to Ghana.
The minister embarked on a two-day diplomatic mission aimed at de-escalating tensions and safeguarding the lives, businesses, and properties of Nigerians living in Ghana. Her itinerary included high-level engagements with Ghana’s President, Foreign Minister, traditional authorities, and members of the Nigerian community. She also met with Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police, Christian Yohuno, upon her arrival at Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday evening.
These diplomatic efforts underscore Nigeria’s proactive stance in ensuring harmonious bilateral relations and addressing citizen-level grievances through dialogue and cooperation. The minister is expected to conclude her visit and return to Abuja on Thursday, July 31.
