Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched coordinated drone attacks on several major cities on Wednesday morning, targeting El Obeid, Atbara, Omdurman and Khartoum North, according to military sources and witnesses.
In El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan State, several RSF kamikaze drones targeted the city before army air defences intercepted two of them. Witnesses reported hearing three explosions as the military engaged the drones.
In Omdurman, army air defences also repelled several drones targeting western parts of the city. Another drone aimed at the Al Drushab neighbourhood in Khartoum North was shot down before reaching its target and crashed inside a local mosque.
In Atbara, RSF drones were intercepted before reaching the city. Several crashed into farmland near Um Al Tuyour on the western bank of the River Nile, with no casualties or significant damage reported.
The attacks form part of the continuing conflict between Sudan’s army and the RSF, with drones increasingly being used to target military and strategic locations across the country.
