The International University of Rabat (UIR) and technology giant Cisco have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a “Cisco EDGE Incubation Centre” focused on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity innovation.
The partnership aims to transform UIR into a strategic hub for technological development and innovation while fostering collaboration between academia, private sector, and public institutions. The initiative leverages flagship programs including the “Cisco Networking Academy” to train future technology leaders and generate sustainable regional impact.
The EDGE Centre (Experience, Design, Go-to-market, Earn) forms part of Cisco’s global “Country Digital Acceleration” program, which accelerates digital transformation by connecting academic institutions, startups, industrial players, and public organizations to promote new technology adoption.
Cisco’s Executive Vice President Francine Katsoudas, who attended the signing ceremony, emphasized the initiative’s contribution to North Africa’s digital growth, aligning with Cisco’s ambitious goal to train three million professionals across Africa to build an inclusive and secure digital future. The partnership reflects growing momentum in Morocco’s innovation ecosystem and demonstrates commitment to strengthening the country’s technological capabilities.
The center will focus on developing expertise in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, two critical areas for Morocco’s digital transformation strategy. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, the initiative aims to accelerate technology adoption and create a pipeline of skilled professionals ready to meet evolving industry demands.
This collaboration positions Morocco as a regional technology hub while advancing Cisco’s continental expansion strategy in Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy.
