Pope Leo XIV Schedules Landmark Africa Tour

The Vatican has announced that Pope Leo XIV will embark on a multi-nation African tour in April 2026, visiting Cameroon, Angola, Algeria and Equatorial Guinea.

According to the Vatican, the visit is expected to centre on interfaith dialogue and strengthening ties between Christian and Muslim communities.
Following Algeria, the Pope will travel to Cameroon from April 15 to 18, with stops in Yaoundé, Bamenda and Douala.

He will then proceed to Angola from April 18 to 21, visiting Luanda, Muxima and Saurimo, before concluding the African leg in Equatorial Guinea from April 21 to 23, where he is scheduled to visit Malabo, Mongomo and Bata.

Observers expect messages of peace and reconciliation to feature prominently, particularly in Cameroon and Angola, where protracted separatist tensions persist.

The April journey forms part of a broader international itinerary.
The pontiff will first visit Monaco on March 28 — the first papal trip to the principality in modern times — and later undertake a visit to Spain from June 6 to 12.

In Barcelona, he is expected to inaugurate the newest and tallest tower of the Sagrada Familia Basilica, commemorating the centenary of the death of its architect, Antoni Gaudí, who was declared venerable by the Church in 2025.
