Tragedy on Ghana’s Highway Claims 16 Lives

Sixteen people have lost their lives following a devastating collision between a Ford Transit bus and an ambulance at Potrikrom on the Kumasi–Sunyani Highway in the Ashanti Region.

The fatal crash occurred near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South East District. The Ford Transit bus, bearing registration number GT 6576-19, was travelling from Kumasi to Drobo. The ambulance was reportedly transporting a pregnant woman from Drobo to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi when the two vehicles collided.

All 16 passengers on board the bus were killed in the impact. Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased. The condition of the pregnant woman and other occupants of the ambulance has not been confirmed. The bodies of the victims have been deposited at the Mankranso Hospital mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, extended his condolences to the bereaved families. In a brief message after receiving news of the incident, he said: “May their souls rest in peace”.
